Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Courses

Knowing how to tie knots, paddle a boat, or pitching a tent is only a small part of being a responsible expedition member. Knowing how to look after someone in a medical emergency, particularly when you are days from a hospital, is an invaluable skill.

Wilderness Medical Outfitters >>, the premier wilderness medicine training institute in the US, has been training backcountry enthusiasts in wilderness medicine since 1967. With courses ranging from 2 to 10 days, WMO can teach you what you need to know in a backcountry emergency.

The Patagonia Mountaineering School is the only WMO certified Wilderness Medicine Training Center in South America. We offer two courses, the 80 hour Wilderness First Responder and the 24 hour Wilderness First Aid course.

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Courses

The Wilderness First Aid, or WFA, courses are 24 or 48 hours (3-5 days) long. We use interactive learning methods, wilderness scenarios, as well as classroom theory to develop well rounded practicioners. The topics covered in the course include but are not limited to: wound management, infections, trauma, fractures and splinting, medical problems and treatment, evacuations, improvised care and equipment, drugs and medications, and long term patient care. This is the standard course for guides, volunteers, and serious enthusiasts. Meets or exceeds all US DOT standards and is accepted worldwide.
