Patagonia, a True Wilderness

Patagonia has everything an aspiring adventurer could wish for. Stunning peaks, splendid glaciers, and incredible vistas. Located in Chile, between 42 and 48 degrees south, the Aysen Region holds the heart of Patagonia. Within the region are numerous national parks, the Northern and part of the Southern Ice Caps of Chile, the second largest lake in South America, as well as countless beautiful peaks, fjords, and quaint villages.

The most wonderful thing about the Aysen Region, apart from all of its natural wonders, is that…. Not many people come here. Places like Torres del Paine and Fitzroy are the most famous places in Patagonia, but the truth is, both have become overrun by tourists and have lost the solitude of the mountains. In terms of scenery, Aysen can easily rival these deservedly famous areas; but because this region is less well known and less developed, each expedition is a true wilderness experience. Apart from a local rancher who may re-supply us with food, it’s unlikely we’ll see anyone else. Here you can follow valleys, scale peaks, and walk on glaciers that very few or possibly no other people have walked on. Finding somewhere that still has a feeling of remoteness is getting more difficult; the Aysen region still has that magic.
